Life After KCAHS

Careers Service

Our Careers Advisor provides students with access to a range of careers resources, activities and experience intended to maximise career development. The Careers Office is the place to locate a vast library of video, DVD and CD-ROM material on vocational planning topics.

The school also encourages students to access the Career Central website, as well as printed information on universities, TAFE colleges, private course providers, specific vocational areas, gap year activities, and much more.

All students engage in career lessons, seminars and interviews at various times during their schooling, as well as benefiting from vocational visits and guest lectures – both on and off-site.

Work Experience

Our school encourages all students to actively participate in Work Experience programs, and all Year 10 students are given the opportunity to enjoy a one-week work experience block each November.

Additional work experience options are available in Years 10, 11 and 12 through negotiation with the Careers Advisor, Year Advisor or Senior Executive.

As a community, we also recommend students seek casual and part-time employment to boost their practical experience and build their self-confidence.

Transition Program

The Transition Program at KCAHS has been designed for those students who may benefit from additional assistance in making the transition from school to work. It recognises that there are a range of pathways to a career and that choices must reflect individual strengths and needs.

The Transition Advisor works closely with the Careers Advisor and parents, and targets students who need extra help planning their transition to work. Those who participate in the program are given opportunities to undertake short TAFE taster courses in areas such as beauty, retail, auto, and carpentry. They may also attend courses related to job skills and career options or complete additional work experience.

Students may be involved in funded School to Work Projects where groups are required to plan, manage and execute projects in order to develop work-related skills, such as problem solving and teamwork.

TAFE-delivered Vocational Education (TVET) is also offered (see Our Co-Curriculum).
